The Challenge
Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) is more commonly known as “complex regional pain syndrome.” In most cases, it will affect the extremities (hands, arms, feet, and legs) with onset symptoms of severe burning sensations. RSD is unique because of its effects on the multiple areas of the body at the same time.
To this day, no definitive studies showcase the cause of RSD. However, research does make the argument the disorder focuses on the sympathetic nervous system. Patients who are experiencing RSD have most likely dealt with an injury, heart disease, surgery, degenerative arthritis, and even stroke.
