Acute pain occurs in patients when an outside event causes pain or discomfort in a specific area of the body that lasts no longer than six months. Typically, there are no other underlying conditions causing the pain, and the body will eventually heal itself with the appropriate care in place. Events that cause acute pain may be associated with sporting injuries, surgery, burns, etc.
